Skin Substitute Graft

Skin substitutes, also known as artificial skin or bioengineered skin equivalents, are materials designed to temporarily or permanently replace partial or full thickness of damaged or missing skin.

These substitutes can be derived from human tissue (autologous or allogeneic), animal sources (xenogeneic), synthetic materials, or a combination thereof. They are designed to mimic the structure and functions of natural skin, providing protection against infection and fluid loss and aiding in wound healing.

Skin substitutes are used in a variety of medical settings, including the treatment of burns, chronic wounds (such as diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers), surgical wounds, and areas of skin loss due to injury or surgery. They serve multiple purposes:
